New Orleans Parking Lot Striping

Nobody in this city has ever fully agreed on where one parking space ends and the next one starts. Faded paint makes it worse. Let the sun bleach your lines and your arrows off, and by August folks are parking like it's a second line down Napoleon, and you're the one hearing about it.

We handle parking lot striping for shops, churches, apartments and offices from Mid City out to Metairie, Kenner and across the river. Same routine every time: we sweep the lot first, because paint on grit peels by winter, then two coats of waterborne traffic paint that's walkable in an hour.

What I promise is conduct. We show up when we said, you get a real person on the phone, nobody talks down to you, and the lot is cleaner when we leave.

Below: how the line striping is done, what moves the price, where we work, and the questions people ask first. Call me at (504) 607-7395 and I'll come measure it.

Parking lot striping in New Orleans, LA

Line Striping

Line striping is the part people watch and judge, because crooked stalls are visible from the second story of any building on Poydras. We chalk the layout first, pull measurements off the existing shadow lines when there is one, and set stall widths at nine feet for retail turnover or ten where folks are hauling groceries and kids out of a truck.

Paint goes down at roughly 15 mils wet with glass bead on the traffic lines. Humidity is the enemy here. A New Orleans August afternoon can leave waterborne paint tacky long past the half hour it should take, so we start early and keep the lot coned until it skins over hard.

A parking lot line painter who rushes that gives you tire tracks through every stripe by dinner. Most parking lot striping work on a mid-size lot wraps in a day.

Pavement Line Striping

Lines are the only part of this job anybody actually looks at, and a crooked one gets spotted from the far end of the lot.

Pavement line striping is layout first, paint second. On a restripe I chase the ghost lines and snap chalk where the old paint has faded out. On fresh asphalt it's all string, tape and math: nine foot stalls for most retail, eight and a half when the plan is tight, a four inch line laid down around 15 wet mils so it's still there next Mardi Gras.

Waterborne acrylic sets in 30 to 45 minutes when the weather plays along, longer in August when the dew point is basically soup and the afternoon storm rolls in on schedule.

That's where a rushed parking lot line painter gets you: tracked paint, tire smears, and stalls that wander.

What the job involves

Here's how a striping day actually runs. First we blow and sweep the whole lot, because paint sticks to asphalt, not to the grit and live oak litter sitting on top of it. Skip that step and your fresh lines start flaking by the time football season rolls around.

Then we snap layout with a chalk line, hold 9 by 18 stalls where the lot allows, and lay in the ADA spaces with a proper 8 foot access aisle beside them.

The parking lot painting itself is the fast part. A machine-applied waterborne traffic paint goes down in one pass, and on a dry New Orleans afternoon it's walk-ready in about half an hour, though our humidity can stretch that.

Most lots take a few hours. Bigger ones we split by section so you never lose the whole property.

What it costs

Straight answer: I can't quote parking lot striping off a web page, because no two lots price the same. What moves it is stall count, whether we're repainting an existing layout or laying out fresh asphalt from scratch, and the extras that eat time. ADA stalls with hatched access aisles, blue paint and post-mounted signs. Fire lanes, stop bars, arrows, numbered stalls, curb painting. Double lines instead of single.

Water-based traffic paint versus a heavier solvent or thermoplastic on a lot taking delivery trucks all day. And whether we're working around your customers or striping a Metairie shopping center at ten at night so nobody parks on wet paint.

Call me at (504) 607-7395, tell me roughly how many spaces you've got, and I'll give you a real number for asphalt line striping on your lot.

When parking lot striping is the wrong fix

Parking lot striping over asphalt that's already coming apart is money you get to watch flake off by the second summer. Paint needs something solid to grip. If the surface is alligatored and crumbles when you scuff it with your boot, fresh lines just draw a nice white border around the problem.

Soft spots that hold water a day after a rain want asphalt patching before anybody paints, and where the base under them has turned to pudding, that's asphalt repair, not paint. A crack wider than a pencil running through a stall line will split the paint right down the middle, so asphalt crack filling comes first every time.

If the lot is past saving, what you want priced is asphalt paving in a fresh lift, then paint a few days after.

And if it's a home drive, you don't need a line painter, you need driveway sealcoating.

We do asphalt striping most weeks of the year. Striping a lot that's failing underneath isn't one of them.

Why choose us for this

You've got a lot where the stalls have faded to ghosts, people are parking at angles nobody drew, and you want parking lot striping handled once so it stops being your problem for a couple of years.

The cheap number usually gets cheap by skipping the blower and the second coat. Paint put down over dust, pollen and tire rubber never bonds, it just sits there, and the first delivery truck that cuts a hard turn peels a stripe right up. We sweep and blow the surface first, snap fresh layout instead of tracing crooked old lines, and double-coat the turning lanes and the drive aisles where tires scrub hardest.

Any parking lot line painter can spray white. Getting the stall count, the aisle width and the accessible spaces right on your actual footprint is the part that goes sideways, and plenty of road striping companies price asphalt striping without ever standing on the lot. The estimate costs you nothing and puts you under no obligation to book it.

Frequently asked questions

How long before I can park on the fresh lines?

Usually about an hour. Water-based traffic paint skins over in 30 to 60 minutes on a dry 75 degree day, and we cone off the freshly striped rows so nobody tracks white across your asphalt. In August humidity, give it two. If rain is coming off the lake within a few hours, I'd rather push the parking lot painting a day than repaint it Monday.

Do I need to seal the lot first?

Only if the surface is worn or you're already planning it. Sealer and paint are two different jobs, and fresh sealcoat needs 24 to 48 hours to cure before any parking lot striping goes down over it.

How do we get started?

Call now about parking lot striping and I'll come out, measure the lot, count what you've got, and tell you whether the layout you're living with is the one you actually want. Plenty of times the stall count goes up a few just by tightening a drive aisle nobody has looked at in years.

When you ring, tell me what the lot does all day: retail turnover, staff parking, box trucks swinging through the back. Size, stall count, curb painting, ADA stalls laid out to spec, stencils, and how much of the old layout is still readable are what move the number.

Most parking lot painting here runs a day. Some road striping companies won't bother with a twenty-space lot behind a corner store. I will. And if you can't close stalls midweek, we'll set a Saturday.
